It’s fine it’s fine it’s fine.

It’s spring and I’m still here!

Got to repair the aboveground garden beds that were unmaintained before I got here!

Got to repair the DIRT that was unmaintained before I got here!

Got to get things planted!

Got to get trellises done!

Got to get fences done!

Buuuut it’s raining. So I’m inside working on my electronics project: updating an old MP3 player with new firmware (the software that shows you the audio files and gives you all the options, etc.) Once I update it, I can stick a really LARGE microSD card in there and store a lot of music and other audio files on it! a) I won’t have to carry my phone or ereader everywhere. b) i can have copies separated from my other devices. c) …saving stuff.

Talked to my brother about that when I visited last weekend. I’m not a prepper in the sense of buckets of dried foods and AKs in the basement. I’m a data-prepper. Save files in places that are NOT on the internet or not directly. Do not count on being able to search the internet forever, not for information, and not for funzies. So I’m compiling a small library of practical stuff like the Foxfire books and gardening books and herbal remedies, but also slowly building a DVD collection of favorites and I have a blu-ray player. And I’m building a music collection that is stored on my own devices.

Also, something called Project Nomad …which is your own server, with maps, wikipedia, and various educational tools. it’s yours, you run and update it, and if the internet breaks down…there it is, giving you advice. This is amazing. However, the documentation isn’t awesome and a lot of the modules don’t work quite right, and I have a thousand other things to work on. we’ll see. I’m sure I’ll get back to it. After I fix my media server. currently trying to set it up with streaming TV separate from Roku or individual apps. Which sounds like the opposite of preparing..? Except that is preparing for my Roku TV to die and/or Roku deciding to be a company I don’t want to work with. Lots of these services already are companies that are watching you. Algorithm knows you like gardening shows? great! However, TV also knows and reports that you only binge things in the winter (seasonal depression, anyone?), or that you watch holiday baking shows and pause a lot (baking habits, anyone?). Or …any number of things they can extrapolate. It’s gross. And when this TV goes, I’m going to make a change. We’ll see.

Anyway, got stuff to do, still raining but upstairs is a mess! ttyl!
