People like to ask, if I had it to do again, would I buy this house?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No, no I would not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s more space than I need, and I’m expanding to fill it just like when you carry a purse that’s too big. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bathroom is too far away and the layout is such that I cannot fix that without spending a lot of money to run pipes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closets…there’s one inside. Just one, and it’s not even big. There’s a big one in the back hall that gets used for coats and snow-gear but also cleaning products and food overflow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a big dry basement, which is a treasure, but you have to go out the back door and down the stairs so it’s not as easily accessible as i would like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That second bedroom is huge, but the amount of work to make it decent when there’s very little light…is its own problem. It’s a lot. Needs painting, finish, trim, …WALL, and DOOR. Yes, it’s true, someone ripped out the old wall, and I get it, it was poorly-placed, but now it’s just open and legally it doesn’t count as a second bedroom. if I sold this house right now, it would be considered a 1 bedroom house. Also it could use a small ceiling-hugging fan that put out more light. they exist, but it’s just one more expense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, the whole house needs more work than I can do by myself. Both in terms of skills and in terms of time and energy. I can’t work 40 hours, then work 20 hours on the weekend. Besides wrecking myself physically, I need to live. I need to cook, clean, run errands, even have fun occasionally although that does not happen enough, mostly I have “tired hobbies” like reading, tv, and video games. And feeling defeated by my own house makes me want to do those when I could be doing more art or social stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I had it to do again, I would be more mindful of the layout, try harder for a one-level place even if that meant a slightly smaller square-footage. But the yard would be hard to duplicate. I love my big yard with room for gardening. But I suspect I could find a 1\/4 acre instead of 1\/3, and that would be plenty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
